In the census of 2 April 1911 in The Street, Sturmer, Essex, Thomas was listed as aged 30 born in Kedington, the Head of Household; a Carman, living with his wife Kate.2
On 29 September 1939, in the 1939 National Register, Thomas and his wife Kate, were listed as living in The Street, Halstead, Essex,[. He was born on 28 April 1879], and his occupation was an Agricultural Labourer. Also listed was their daughter Elsie M. HICKFORD, later FARRANT.8
Thomas died on 17 November 1956 in Sturmer, Essex, at the age of 76.1,9
Thomas HICKFORD witnessed the death of Kate HICKFORD in 1958 in Sturmer, Essex.10,9
