OSCEOLA PIONEER DIED Joseph Pask Passes Away After a Brief Illness
Friends and relatives of Joseph W. Pask were grieved Thursday morning to hear of his death which happened about one o'clock. He died at the home of his son, Henry Pask, who lives one mile south of Osceola. Mr. Pask had been very feeble for the past four or five years, but not until recently did the relatives realize that the end was near. Bowel trouble was the cause of death.
The funeral was held at Osceola Friday. The service was conducted at the Methodist church and was attended by a very large crowd. A number from here were in attendance. Rev. Mr. Shawl of the Methodist church at Neponset had charge. Interment took place at Osceola cemetery.
Joseph W. Pask was born in Lincolnshire, England, May 8th, 1822, and died at the home of his son, Henry, at Osceola, August 16th, 1906, aged 84 years 3 months and 8 days. He was married in England to Miss Elizabeth Brown in 1849. His wife having passed to the world beyond, Sept. 17, 1897. He came to America in the fall of 1851, stopping in New York state during that winter, in the spring of 1852, moving to Peoria, Ill., where they resided four years, then moving to Stark county. The remainder of his life was spent in Stark county except ten years in Nebraska. To this union were born five children: Mrs. Mary Stout, Elmwood, Neb; Henry of Osceola, Ill; Mrs. Nellie Wood, Morton, Washington, the two elder children having died in infancy.
"Uncle Joe" as he was commonly called, was one of the boys who left everything and went forth at his country's call. He belonged to Company B of the 19th Ill. He left Osceola with his company in June, 1861 and served three years and one month. In the beginning of the service he was crippled in a railroad accident, but still he served his country to the last and was always a good soldier and prompt for duty.4
Research Note: He was wounded while riding in a wooden boxcar that was blown up while crossing a trestle. He was one of three men left alive. He lost his leg and was recovering in a hospital when the regiment was mustered out July 9, 1864.13
Research Note: Joseph W. PASK and Joseph Edwin PASK were cousins, they possibly married BROWN sisters, and then immigrated to America. The two families lived in Elmira, Stark County, and Kewanee, Henry County, Illinois.14

LIND:"Ernest Pask 1920-2013
A tribute to a Nocton resident from Ellen Jackson (née Pask) and family Ernest Pask, or Chick as everyone knew him, was born in Dunston on 7th December 1920, before moving to Nocton with his parents, Eustace and Agnes, and 10 brothers and sisters.
Having served his country in WWII, he came home and married Bertha Coaton at Dunston Church in July 1948. They lived in Potterhanworth and then Metheringham. He worked as a gardener/chauffeur for Derek Young, a job he enjoyed. He was well known in the surrounding villages and played cricket for Nocton. He also loved his shooting and would come over to Carlton on Trent, first to my father, Fred Pask (his cousin) and them more recently to our family shoot.
He loved a party, and he and Bertha have shared all our special family occasions with us; it wouldn’t have been the same without him. Chick was such a good, kind man who was well-liked by everyone that knew him, my family and I will never forget him. Chick, my best friend and cousin.
At Chick’s funeral on 4 February, the family chose donations to Nocton church in place of flowers. £923 was collected at the crematorium, and a family member who could not attend sent £50. Relations in America sent £250 - all for Nocton Church at a time when the re[cent repairs have left the church very short of funds.
(The Parochial Church Council of All Saints, Nocton would like to express their gratitude to the Pask family for their generosity.)10
