Charles PLAYLE was born in 1832 in Ridgewell, Essex.2 He was baptised on 18 November 1832 in Stambourne, Essex.1 He was the son of George PLAYLE and Sarah LAVER.1 In the census of 6 June 1841 in Ridgewell, Essex, he was listed as aged 9, assumed to be the grandson of Joseph & Elizabeth LAVER, also listed was his brother George, aged 11.3 In the census of 7 June 1841 he was a neighbour of his great-uncle Robert PARSK.4
Charles married Eliza HUMPHRY in 1851 in the Halstead registration district.2,5 In the census of 30 March 1851 in Drury Lane, Ridgewell, Essex, he was listed as an Agricultural Labourer aged 18 born in Ridgewell, the son of George PLAYLE.6
In the census of 2 April 1871 in Ridgewell, Essex, Charles was listed as the Head of Household; An Agricultural Labourer, living with his wife Eliza, and children Sarah aged 16, James aged 15, Emily aged 9, Hannah aged 6, Harry aged 4, and Frederick aged 6 months, all born in Ridgewell.2
