     Frederick William Garness was born on 31 March 1907 in 14 Ravenspurn Street, Grimsby, Lincolnshire.1,2,3 He was the son of Frederick William Garness and Rose Savage.1,4 Frederick William Garness emigrated with Rose Garness on 13 July 1909 to Port, Liverpool, Lancashire; Rose sailed from Liverpool on the ship S.S. Ivernia, departing on the 13th July 1909 arriving in Boston Massachusets on the 22nd July 1909, traveling with her 2 year old son Frederick William and her sister-in-law Cissie Warnes.1 He immigrated with Frederick William Garness to Port of Liverpool, Liverpool, Lancashire; Fred W. Garness age 31, Fred W. child age 5, and Ivy J. age 2, departing from the port of Boston, MA, USA on the SS Ivernia, Cunard Line arriving on the 2nd of February 1913 at the Port of Liverpool on route to their home town of Great Grimsby, Lincolnshire.5 Frederick William Garness was New Tag listed as a member of the crew of the SS Terje sailing from Murray Bay and Montreal on route to the Port of New York as a Fireman (Stoker?) age 19. No Seamans Identity Card, joined the ship 31 March 1926 in Grimsby, Lincolnshire. Length of service 8 months, under "whether to be paid off or discharged at port of arrival" - was stated No.
Another crew member joined the ship in Grimsby at the same time and on the list for New York, by the name of Walter Walker age 17, a Deck Boy, as two of Fred's aunts where married to men called Walker, it is possible they could be related. to be researched. on 29 October 1926 in New York, New York State, U.S.A.6 He was New Tag taken from the Manifest at the Border Crossing at Peace Bridge, Buffalo, N.Y. listed as a Passenger of the SS Terje having sailed from Montreal to Port Colborne, through the Welland Canal and Lake Erie. Fred Garness, a Labourer, age 20,with 15$.Last pemanent residence given as Canada, Port Colboune, Ontario. Passage paid by self, height 5ft. 6ins.compl. fair, hair brn. eyes, blue. gave birth place as Boston, Mass. USA.(in fact Grimsby, Linc. UK.) indicated he was travelling with a friend Fred Beckstead. Did not record any family at home or going to join in the USA. giving Seaport of landing Montreal and date of landing *28 May1925. He and his companion were given Referals and a Visitors permit of Entry to the USA for 90 Days.
*This date does not line up with the Manifest arriving in New York via Montreal stating he Joined the SS Terje in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, UK. on the 31 March 1926 age 19 with no Seamans Identity Card and arriving in New York with only 8 months service on the ship on the 29 October 1926. on 4 October 1927 in Peace Bridge, Buffalo, Eire County, New York State, U.S.A.7
Frederick married Mildred Jackson, daughter of John Herbert Jackson and Mary Angeline Raven, circa 1930 in Kingston, Frontenac County, Ontario, Canada.8
On his son Frederick's Death Certificate, the fathers birthplace was recorded as Grimsby, England.9
Address given at the time of his second sons death.10
Frederick died on 26 November 1979 in 9 Dunkirk Avenue, Kingston, Frontenac County, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 72.8,11 Frederick was buried on 28 November 1979 in Cataraqui Cemetery, 927 Purdy Mills Road, Kingston, Frontenac County, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 72; buried in Grave 7, Lot 89, Section New A, the inscription on the Head Stone reads:-
