Formidable at the age of 21. HMS Formidable was the first battleship to be sunk during WWI. The ship was sunk on 1st January 1915 while on Channel patrol off Portland Hill by torpedoes of German U-Boat U-24, losing 547 men from her complement of 780. The ship sunk quickly during bad weather which caused such a high loss of life.4,6,7 Charles is commemorated in perpetuity in Chatham Naval Memorial, Chatham, Kent.4,6

Arthur George PASK was born on 14 November 1847 in Chedburgh, Suffolk.4,3,1,5,6 He was the son of Ann PASK.1 In the census of 30 March 1851 in Chedburgh, Suffolk, he was listed as aged 3 born in Chedburgh, the wife's son [the step-son] of Josiah ORRISS.7 In the census of 7 April 1861 in 15 St. Andrews Street, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, he was listed as aged 13 born in Bury St. Edmunds, the son [step-son] of Josiah ORRISS.2
Arthur married Emma CLARKE on 15 December 1876 in the Registry Office, Sudbury, Suffolk. He was a Shoemaker, a Bachelor aged 28, residing at Stanstead. No father was listed. His wife, Emma, died on 2 September 1930 in Upper Green, Stanstead, Suffolk, at the age of 83.15,16 Prior to his death, Arthur George PASK lived at Upper Street, Stanstead, Suffolk; a Farm Labourer.17

Emma CLARKE was born on 1 April 1847 in Ballingdon, Suffolk. Her parents were Robert & Ann Clarke née Firman, a Harness Maker.3
Emma married Arthur George PASK, son of Ann PASK, on 15 December 1876 in the Registry Office, Sudbury, Suffolk. She was a Spinster aged 28, residing at Stanstead. Her father was listed as William Clarke, a Husbandman. The marriage was witnessed by William Smith, and Frances Jane Clarke.1,4,5,6 Emma CLARKE was the informant of the registration of the birth of her son Bertie Charles PASK who was born on 20 April 1877 at Stanstead, Suffolk.1,7,8,9,10 At the time of her son's birth registration on 30 May 1877, Arthur & Emma were living in Stanstead, Suffolk, and Arthur's occupation was a Shoemaker.
