A GOOD AND BRAVE SOLDIER.
Sergt. Pask. of the 1st Northants, is unofficially reported as having been killed, his wife, who lives at 26, Adelaide Street, having received a letter from Mrs. Osborne Smith, the wife of the Colonel of the Battalion, stating that Pask, whom she describes as "a good and brave soldier," was killed in the battle of the Aisne. Sergt. Pask, who was 35 years of age, was gymnastic instructor to the Battalion, and was a fine athlete, having won many prizes on the running path during the 13 years he spent in India. He comes of a soldier family, for his father and great-grandfather served in the army, and his father-in-law is also a soldier. Much sympathy will be felt with Mrs. Pask who has five children. The youngest has been christened Gordon Mons Aisne, the first name being in memory of the late Capt. Gordon, who was killed on the day of its birth.13
Steve Reeves wrote:
Bertram was killed on 16th Sep 1914; the next day my Great-Grandad got shot through the shoulder, was shipped back to Britain and never returned to France. He spent the remainder of the war training the new troops. Like Bertram, he was a gym instructor.13
