An inquest relating to her was reported in the Stamford Mercury, Stamford, Lincolnshire, on 12 November 1880.13 It read:
On Friday evening G.W.Thomas. Esq., deputy coroner, held an inquest at the Barge inn, Boston, on view the body of Eliza Taylor, wife William Taylor, labourer, living at No. 4, Tuxford's-court, George-street.-William Taylor, husband of deceased, said that up to Thursday evening his wife appeared to be in her usual state health. She then went home about six o'clock, when he and his family had supper together. She afterwards went out, but did not say where she was going. They had lived on good terms together. -Mr. J. P. Nicholson, who described himself minister of the Church of England, said that when he was passing the Sluice Bridge on the previous evening he heard a heavy splash in the water. He stopped, and presently he heard shrill cry and went to the bank of the river, but could see nothing. He heard a paddling or struggling in the water, and went for assistance to the railway crossing. Three men returned with him, and saw something floating in the water. They drew it to the side, and found it was the body of a woman with a dress thrown over her face. Two medical men were sent for, and pronounced life to extinct. Before hearing the splash witness had noticed some one walking hurriedly, and he believed the woman had mistaken the pathway and fallen into the water accidentally.-The men who assisted to get the body out gave corroborative evidence. -A verdict of "found drowned" was returned.13
