James married Mary CROCKS circa 1840.3 At the time of his son George's baptism on 8 February 1844, he was listed as a Calico Glazer, and living at Bath Street, St. Leonard's, London.4 At the time of his son's baptism on 20 April 1845, he was listed as a Coffee Roaster, living at James' Street, Shoreditch, London.5 James was listed as aged 33 born in Shoreditch, the Head of Household in the census of 30 March 1851 at 6 Trafalgar Street, Bethnal Green, London, a Coffee Roaster, living with his wife Mary A., and children George, John J., and Clara. Also living with them was his brothers-in-law Thomas REYNOLDS, Robert REYNOLDS, and George BANKIS?6
James married Mary Ann REYNOLDS on 16 August 1852 in St. Thomas, Bethnal Green, London.7,8,9 James was listed as aged 43 born in Shoreditch, the Head of Household in the census of 7 April 1861 at 6 Trafalgar Street, Bethnal Green, London, a Coffee Roaster, living with his children George, John, Robert, and Charles. Also lodging with them was George AUSTIN [probably his future brother-in-law]. He was listed as married, but probably was widowed.10
James married Christian AUSTIN in 1861 in the Shoreditch registration district.1,11,12 In the census of 2 April 1871 in 6 Trafalgar Street, Bethnal Green, London, James was listed as aged 53 born in Shoreditch, the Head of Household a Coffee Roaster, living with his wife Christian, and two sons Robert, and Charles.1 In the census of 3 April 1881 in 27 Charlotte Buildings, Bethnal Green, London, James was listed as aged 63 born in Shoreditch, the Head of Household a Labourer, living with his wife Christian.13
James died in 1882 in the Bethnal Green registration district.2
