"After Mary Ann Pask Kerr died, my Great Grandfather John Charles Kerr went onto become a Captain on the White Star Line and is said to have captained the ship that brought Princess Mary of Teck to England to marry the future King George V. John's youngest son from his second marriage, Alexander (my half great uncle) was second Engineer on Ernest Shackleton's expedition to the Antarctic in 1914 and was one of those who lived for 3 months in an upturned lifeboat while awaiting rescue."8,9
