Edward John HILL was born in 1879 in Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan.1 Edward was born and grew up in Merthyr, his father was a tailor, and Edward was to become a grocer. In the 1901 census he is described as a grocer's assistant at Abersychan, a village about 15 miles away from Merthyr, on the northern edge of Pontypool.1
Edward married Emma PASKE, daughter of Zachariah PASKE and Phoebe JENKINS, on 25 July 1904 in Baptist Church, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan. It may well be that the wedding was from Edward's family home at Merthyr, as both his parents, Robert and Jane were still alive.2,3,4 Edward was found drowned in Kenfig Sands, Glamorgan.1 Clive wrote: "At the time of my father's birth (1909) Edward was a grocer at Ebbw Vale, and and the family home was in the village of Cwm.1"
